During Apple's "Far Out" event on Wednesday, the
American giant announced the release of four new models - iPhone 14, iPhone 14
Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple's new phone has collision
detection, emergency satellite communications, and a camera with all the
performance improvements. The company also unveiled the Apple Watch Series 8
and new Apple Watch SE models, as well as the new Apple Watch Ultra smartwatch.
Finally, AirPods Pro 2 True Wireless Earbuds (TWS) have been
released as the successor to Apple's TWS earphones of 2019. In this week's
episode of the Fast 360 Orbital podcast, host Akhil Arora and managing director
Jamshed Avari are now at Apple's California headquarters, editor Roydon Cerejo
and analyst Sheldon Pinto. We discuss some key takeaways from Apple's latest
product launches, from the new ₹79,900 iPhone 14 model to the company's TWS
headphones. What does the new iPhone 14 series offer?
Although this year's iPhone 14 has kept the same price as
its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are offered at a
higher price. Meanwhile, in the US, Apple's new smartphone is priced at the
same price as last year's iPhone 13. According to Jamshed, Apple's decision to
keep the price of the iPhone 13 unchanged while the increase in the price of
the iPhone SE (2022) may discourage some users. But what do you get for that
extra money?
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max sport Dynamic Island, Apple's
sophisticated software combination for a punch-hole integrated and pill-shaped
cutout. This is undoubtedly the biggest change in Apple smartphones since the
launch of the iPhone X in 2017. The change can be useful for users who will not
need to access the Display Center often. , Roydon says on the podcast. With the
software, Apple has provided additional services on the cutting edge,
developers can use the API to deliver more performance on the iPhone 14 Pro and
iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Regarding the camera, Apple has added a new 2x telephoto
mode to the camera of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, thanks to the
new 48-megapixel camera. Apple said that users will be able to access this mode
in ProRaw mode, according to Jamshed. We'll have to wait and see how Apple's
claims of better camera performance hold up in our review of the new phone.
Jamshed said that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are new and could
inspire people on the fence, or those who are thinking of upgrading from older
iPhone models. Always On Display (AoD) isn't just a text screen that's smaller
than an Android phone - it's actually an iOS lock screen that refreshes at 1Hz
to save battery. It almost revolutionizes the concept of locking your phone, he
says.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus come with the
A15 Bionic chip that was replaced in last year's iPhone 13 model, as well as a
five-core GPU for better performance. The iPhone 14 Plus is lighter than the
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Jamshed said. But these small changes are
for the best - Roydon thinks it's a good time to buy the iPhone 13 especially
in India.
Apple goes Ultra with a new Watch
Apple's first device with the word "ultra" in the
"Far Out" program is confirmed, in the form of the new Apple Watch
Ultra. The company also launched a new Apple Watch Series 8 line, as well as a
new Apple Watch SE model. Sheldon says the Apple Watch Ultra is a confusing
product, while Jamshed - who tested it after the launch event - says it's a
mess. While features like dive computer integration are nice, Sheldon says 60
hours of battery life doesn't compare to a travel watch that runs all day on a
single charge.
Fancy AirPods upgraded
That leaves the AirPods Pro 2 - the second generation of
Apple's premium TWS headphones. They offer active noise cancellation and better
audio quality. Apple hasn't announced support for Hi-Res Audio, but Jamshed
says that those who tried the headphones at the event said the noise
cancellation was much better. We will find out more about how they work in our
upcoming review.
