Alibaba Group Holding Ltd on Tuesday unveiled Tongyi Qianwen, a large-scale GPT-like AI language that it plans to integrate into all of the company's business applications in the near future.

It will first be integrated with DingTalk, Alibaba's workplace messaging app, and can be used to collect meeting notes, draft emails, and write business proposals. It will be added to Tmall Genie, Alibaba's voice assistant.

CEO Daniel Zhang said in a statement, "We are at the crossroads of technology, driven by AI and cloud computing, and companies across all industries are beginning to embrace the intelligent revolution to stay ahead. "

Alibaba shares rose 3% in morning trading.

Alibaba Cloud plans to open Tongyi Qianwen to its customers so that they can create their own large-scale custom language models.

Global interest in generative AI, which learns to act from past data to create new content, has grown since the launch of the chatbot ChatGPT by OpenAI supported by Microsoft at the end of last year.

Others, including Google and Alphabet Inc's Baidu Inc, have boosted their AI models and released similar chats.

Tongyi Qianwen is based on Tongyi, an Alibaba-purchased model system that integrates various AI models.
