Ajay Devgn and Tabu-star's 'Drishyam' franchise is crossing
borders as it is set to be remade for the South Korean audience through a
Korean remake. "Drishyam" is an Indian name that has achieved success
in all Indian languages be it Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu or Hindi.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the India Pavilion
during the current edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Indian production companies Panorama Studios and Anthology
Studios, founded by former Warner Bros. Local Korean producer Jay Choi,
"Parasite" actor Song Kang-ho and famous director Kim Jee-woon have
teamed up for a Korean remake.
The first part of "Drishyam", directed by the late
Nishikant Kamat, revolves around Vijay Salgaonkar whose simple world is
shattered when a sudden death affects his family and his strict measures to
protect them from the law. With supporting credits from Ajay Devgn, Tabu and
Kamlesh Sawant, this movie is a big hit.
Producer Kumar Mangat Pathak said, “I am happy that the
title of 'Drishyam' is being made in Korean, a first for a Hindi film. This
will not only make it available outside of India but will also put Hindi cinema
on the global map. All these years, Korean food has been inspired, and now they
have found a place of art in one of our movies. What a great success for the
Indian film team! »
Jay Choi is also optimistic about the partnership. He said,
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to remake a successful Hindi film
with a twist from Korean cinema. But the movement has great value as the first
major production between Korea and India. Through our collaboration, we will be
able to bring the best of Indian films to Korea and make a revival that is as
valuable as the original. "
Noting that the film makes you roll with its twists and turns,
Kumar Mangat Pathak is confident that the title "Drishyam" will also
find an audience in Korea [and the rest of the world]. "This is the
beginning of a meaningful cultural exchange between the two countries and their
film industries," he signed.
