Congresswoman Sonia Gandhi had a positive test on Covid-19, party chief Randeep Surjewal said on Thursday.
“She has isolated herself under medical advice,” Surjewala said, adding that Gandhi had a mild fever. “We hope she will get better. We will get her tested again and her plan of visiting the ED stands,” he added.
Sonia Gandhi, 75, met with leaders and activists last week, some
of whom were found positive on Covid-19, a party spokeswoman said on Twitter.
On Wednesday, the Law Enforcement Agency (ED) called on
Sonia Gandhi to take a stand on her money laundering case on June 8. In the
same case, on June 2, the ED also called on party MP Rahul Gandhi, who is not
in India at the moment.
Surjewala said Sonia had a mild fever and Covid-19 symptoms on Wednesday night.“As a large number of Congressmen and women and well-wishers have expressed concern, we want to stay that she is fine and recovering. We thank everyone for their good wishes,” Surjewala wrote on Twitter.
While the party claims that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi
will appear before the ED, several of its leaders, including Abhishek Manu
Singhvi, claim that the government is abusing central investigative bodies to
attack the opposition. The congressional leader also said the party was not
afraid of the "tactics."
