Death of Sonali Phogat: BJP leader Sonali Phogat's brother
has filed a formal complaint with the Goa police alleging that she was killed
by two of her colleagues.
"She was threatened, she was scared. Something was
added to her food after she complained of problems. This is murder... I want
justice for her," said Rinku Phogat, sister of Sonali Phogat, demanding an
FIR for her sister. post mortem. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the
state police was thoroughly investigating Phogat's death.
Taking into account the opinion of doctors and Goa Director
General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh, it is tentative that he died of a heart
attack, Sawant told reporters.
However, Phogat's brother Rinku Dhaka claimed that before
his death, Phogat spoke to his mother, sister and brother-in-law where he was
disturbed and complained to his two companions.
He also claimed that CCTV cameras, laptops and other
important items were missing from his farm in Haryana after his death.
Phogat, 42, a BJP leader from Hisar in Haryana who found
fame on Tik Tok, was "brought dead" to St Anthony's Hospital in
Anjuna, North Goa on Tuesday morning, a police official said earlier. he said,
saying he died of a suspected heart attack. The Anjun police registered a case
of unnatural death. Phogat's family members arrived in Goa on Tuesday evening.
In his complaint filed with the Anjuna police in Goa, Dhaka
alleged that two of Phogat's associates killed him in Goa.
"We asked him to stay away from her and return to Hisar
the next day (after Phogat spoke to his mother)," Dhaka told reporters
outside the Anjuna police station.
He said the police refused to register a First Information
Report (FIR) against the two people. "Had the FIR not been filed against
her, we would not have allowed the post-mortem in Goa," he said.
Dhaka said the family members would prefer the post-mortem
to be conducted at the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi rather
than AIIMS in Jaipur.
"He has been a BJP leader for the last 15 years. We
will also approach the Prime Minister to help us get justice for him," he
said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sawant said he was following up on
the matter from Director General of Police Jaspal Singh. "The Goa police
is investigating the case in detail," he said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi had earlier said
Phogat reached Goa on August 22 and checked into a hotel in Anjuna area. He was
taken to the hospital from the hotel at 9 a.m. Tuesday, he said.
Phogat was taken to St Anthony Hospital after he complained
of discomfort, DGP Singh told PTI on Tuesday.
Singh said there was no foul play in the case, although
Phogat's family has disputed the circumstances surrounding his death and
opposition parties in Haryana have demanded a CBI probe. There were no external
signs of injury on the body, the DGP said, adding that the exact cause of death
would be revealed by post-mortem.
