Around 22 individuals, including seven youngsters, were killed when a houseboat toppled and sank close to an ocean side in Kerala's Malappuram region Sunday night, the state government informed.

The occurrence occurred around 7 pm close to Tuvalthiram ocean side in the Tanur region of the locale. Following reports of the sinking of the houseboat, four individuals were owned up to a medical clinic in basic condition, Kerala sports serve V Abdurahiman affirmed.

Congress leader and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi too wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.

"Distraught by the news of a houseboat capsizing in Malappuram, Kerala. My heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones, and wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured." "I appeal to Congress workers to assist authorities in rescue operations," Mr Gandhi tweeted. 

Kerala Boss Pastor Pinarayi Vijayan declared that he will visit the site today and guided Malappuram region gatherer to promptly complete a crisis salvage activity. Police, fire and wellbeing authorities alongside local people from Tanur were taken part in the salvage work.
