King Charles III was officially crowned as the monarch of
the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and other Commonwealth
realms in a grand ceremony that was not only attended by the members of the
royal family but also by other foreign dignitaries and celebrities. As part of
the celebratory weekend, a Coronation Concert was organised the following day,
which was also attended by many personalities, including Bollywood actor Sonam
Kapoor — who delivered her spoken word performance at the event, which also saw
performances by pop stars Katy Perry and Take That.
Always dressed for the occasion, Sonam Kapoor stole the show
in a white floral-printed dress co-designed by Indian designer Anamika Khanna
and UK-based designer Emilia Wickstead. Sharing several pictures of herself in
the floor-length gown on Instagram, Sonam Kapoor wrote, “Historic moments call
for fashion moments. I’m honoured to mark the unforgettable occasion of the
Coronation concert by wearing the collaborative vision of two of the most
incredible designers from the two counties I’m lucky to call
home…@anamikakhanna.in @emiliawickstead.”
The off-shoulder outfit featured a vibrant floral and fauna
print, which celebrated the rich traditional Indian craft. According to PTI,
while calico-inspired print on the dress was created by Anamika, the “sweeping
band detail around the shoulders framing a corseted bodice, and a full-skirt
lined with architectural godet pleats was designed by New Zealand-born,
UK-based fashion designer Emilia.”
The actor paired the ensemble with stunning jewellery — a
pair of drop earrings — and completed her look hair styled in beachy waves, and
subtle makeup which comprised smokey eyes, pink lips, and rouged cheeks.
During her performance, which began with a ‘namaste‘ (a
commonly-used greeting in India), Sonam Kapoor highlighted the diversity of the
Commonwealth and the oneness that keeps the nation together. She also
introduced Steve Winwood, who performed a modern version of his song Higher
Love, with a 70-piece orchestra.
