Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar, who recently attended the
premiere of the co-produced movie "Kill" at the 2023 Toronto
International Film Festival, took a moment to share his thoughts on Priyanka
Chopra's successful transition to Hollywood. In an interview with ET Canada
during the festival, Johar couldn't help but express his enthusiasm for her
journey, describing it as nothing short of "fantastic."
Johar, who had previously collaborated with Priyanka in the
2008 film "Dostana," applauded her for her resilience and the
remarkable success she has achieved on her own terms in the world of Hollywood.
He spoke glowingly of her consistent excellence on various platforms and the
values she represents, emphasizing that her trajectory has been truly
remarkable.
For those who may not be aware, Priyanka Chopra made
headlines earlier this year during an interview with Dax Shepard on his podcast
"Armchair Expert." In the candid conversation, she opened up about
her decision to make the move from Bollywood to Hollywood, shedding light on
some of the challenges she faced in the Indian film industry.
Priyanka revealed that she felt cornered in Bollywood,
encountering difficulties such as being overlooked for roles and having
disputes with industry figures. Tired of navigating the political aspects of
the industry, she felt the need for a change. It was during this period that
Anjula Acharia, who now manages Priyanka, noticed her potential in a video and
reached out to her.
Anjula, impressed by Priyanka Chopra's talent, inquired
about her interest in pursuing a music career in the United States. This
opportunity presented itself at a time when Priyanka was actively seeking
alternatives outside of Bollywood. She explained that venturing into music
allowed her to explore a different side of the world and avoid the need to
engage in the politics and social circles of the industry.
Priyanka's foray into Hollywood didn't stop at music, as she
went on to star in various American shows, including "Quantico" and
"Citadel." Her remarkable journey continues to inspire many.
Returning to Karan Johar, the accomplished director recently
made a comeback to the director's chair with the film "Rocky Aur Rani Kii
Prem Kahaani," featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The film enjoyed
considerable success at the box office, marking a triumphant return for Johar
after a seven-year hiatus from directing.
