A case has been registered against the producer of
Adipurush, director Om Raut and the film industry for the new film for hurting
the religious sentiments of people by inappropriately portraying characters
from Hindu mythology.
Sanjay Dinanath Tiwari, who described himself as a preacher
of Sanatan Dharma, filed a complaint at the Sakinaka police station in Mumbai
by the advocates of the Mumbai High Court - Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra.
According to the complaint, Sanjay said that Adipurush was
made in the biography of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram from the holy book
Ramcharitmanas. He alleged that the new poster of Adipurush showed Lord Ram in
traditional attire against the spirit of creation and nature of Ramcharitmanas
mentioned in Hindu scriptures.
According to a report in India Today, the plaintiff also
said that not all characters in the Ramayana wear Janeu, which has special
significance in Sanatani Dharma Hinduism. An FIR has been registered under
Sections 295 (A), 298, 500, 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
A few days ago, the makers of Adipurush released a new cast
poster on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, an event held to celebrate the
birth anniversary of Lord Ram. In the poster, Prabhas and Sunny are carrying
bows and arrows and are wearing military uniforms and dhoti. Kriti is in a
simple saree that covers her head, while Devdatta is seen bending down to serve
the trio.
Last year, the makers unveiled the much awaited Adipurush
teaser. However, he started a controversy about the depiction of Hindu gods and
the negative nature of the visual effects. Netizens criticized the makers for
the apparent Islamization of Lankesh due to Saif's appearance as the demon
king, who was seen sporting a beard and haircut.
Soon after that, the film's release date was postponed so
that the team could recreate the visual effects. Om Raut said, “Adipurush is
not a film, but a symbol of our dedication to Prabhu Shri Ram and our
commitment to Sanskriti and our history. In order to give the audience a
complete show, we need to give more time to the team working on the film.
Adipurush will now be released on June 16, 2023. We are determined to make a
film that India will be proud of. Your support, love and blessings are what
keep us going."
