The Abhishek Pathak directorial, released two weeks ago, is
smashing the box office records and seems to never have a bad moment at the box
office. Even after the release of Bhediya, the audience preferred to watch the
Ajay Devgn starrer.
Devgn's crime thriller collected at number two in the second
weekend, earning 17.32 crore* on Sunday and 14 crore* on Saturday. Needless to
say, the movie is still attracting a lot of viewers and the current collection
is 143 crores.
While Drishyam 2 continues to be a favorite among
moviegoers, the movie has grossed around 5-7 crores as per the original
schedule. This is the expected drop after the weekend. This means that the
total will reach 148-155 crore, thus opening the doors of the Rs 200 crore
club.
The Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran starrer has broken many
records at a time when many Bollywood biggies are struggling to make money. The
film topped the opening weekend collections of blockbuster Bollywood films like
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Gangubai Kathiawadi and The Kashmir Files. For the
uninitiated, the film collected 15.38 crore at a time when many experts
believed that the film could open around 10-12 crore.
Drishyam 2 is also likely to be one of the highest grossing
Hindi films of 2022. It is worth noting that the film has ended the box office
shortage from the fall in Bollywood, and is also the star of Ajay Devgn this
year. His previous films Thank God and Runway 34 did not do well at the box
office.
Besides Devgn, Abhishek Pathak's film also stars Shriya
Saran, Tabu, Akshaye Khanna, Ishita Dutta and Rajat Kapoor. The film is the
sequel to the 2015 release by National Award-winning director Nishikant Kamat.
